Hear from local authors about their books and what goes into writing!

The second of our Local Author Night events will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 27 in Upper Sandusky Community Library’s large meeting room. The event will feature thriller writer Evan Graver, young adult novelist Cas Miller, and non-fiction writer Lori Arnold. Hear from these authors about their books, listen to them read excerpts from their work, and learn how they handle the challenges of writing.

It's said that a picture is worth a thousand words . . . but what if it was a motion picture and there were 84,250 words? We'll let you decide when you take part in our program, Which Is Better: Ove or Otto.

The book for August is "Step by Step" written by Alice B. McGinty and illustrated by Diane Goode. “On the morning a little boy is going to start school, his father reassures when things seem overwhelming, take it step by step! Whether it is making new friends, learning to write and count, or cleaning up a big mess at the end of the day, he can get through it all and have fun along the way.”

The Upper Sandusky Community Library Board of Trustees will convene for a meeting at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10. The library’s Board of Trustees meets at noon on the second Thursday of each month to discuss library business. The meetings are open to the public.

Common Readers will be reading “Alexander Hamilton” by Ron Chernow in August.

“Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ron Chernow presents a landmark biography of Alexander Hamilton, the Founding Father who galvanized, inspired, scandalized, and shaped the newborn nation.”

The discussion will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15 in the library’s large meeting room. Copies of the book are available upon request at the library’s front desk. It is also available as an ebook and audiobook on Libby.

Do you have a favorite reading genre, but no one to talk about it with? Then make way for the Inglorious Bookworms Book Club. Each month the book club will feature a different genre that you can dive into or skip.

School is back in session and so is That Thursday Thing! This weekly afternoon program, which starts back up on August 24, is for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. It takes place from 3:00-4:00 p.m. every Thursday, unless school is not in session. Miss Lisa and Miss Jill plan interactive games, crafts, and activities for kids while making learning fun.

It's time to head back to school . . . and to the library! Children, teens, and adults are invited to join Miss Lisa and Miss Jill at 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23 at the Upper Sandusky Community Library’s front entrance for a Back to School Cookout. There will be food and games and plenty of time to catch up with your friends after the summer break. The party goes on rain or shine and everything is free!

The book for September is "Do Not Bring Your Dragon to the Library" written by Julie Gassman and illustrated by Andy Elkerton. “Have you ever thought about bringing your dragon to the library? Don't do it! You might have the best intentions, but that dragon will cause nothing but trouble. Using rhyming text and a diverse cast of characters, this charming picture book will provide some important―and some not so important―library etiquette in a very entertaining way.”

The Upper Sandusky Community Library will be closed Monday, Sept. 4 for Labor Day. The library will return to regular hours on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
