Common Readers: "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency"

If you have always wanted to join a book club, then start off 2022 by taking part in the Common Readers Book Discussion Group.

Common Readers will be reading “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” by Alexander McCall Smith, a mystery centered around Botswana’s first and only lady detective. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the library in regular print, large print, and book on CD. The book is also available as an ebook and audiobook on Libby and as an audiobook on hoopla.

The hybrid meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18 in the library’s large meeting room. If you prefer to attend the meeting virtually, please email Krystal Smalley at ksmalley@seolibraries.org for the Zoom meeting information.

The Common Readers Book Discussion Group meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month. Readers can join the group for one, several, or every meeting. The 2022 schedule is as follows: “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” by Alexander McCall Smith (January 18); “The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels” by Jon Meacham (February 15); “The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek” by Kim Michele Richardson (March 15); “Be Frank With Me” by Julia Claiborne Johnson (April 19); “Kent State: Four Dead in Ohio” by Derf Backderf (May 17); “This Tender Land” by William Kent Krueger (June 21); “Pachinko” by Min Jin Lee (August 16); “The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires” by Grady Hendrix (September 20); “Joyland” by Stephen King (October 18); and “The Weight of a Moment” by Michael Bowe (November 15). There are no meetings in July or December. The title for each month will be available at the Upper Sandusky Community Library in a variety of formats.
